Yacht Sanitization in Fiumicino

The Rome coast: service berths, canal moorings and easy access.

Fiumicino is a practical service port for the yachts that use Rome as a base. Access is easy, the berths are workmanlike rather than showy, and a visit can usually be arranged without waiting for a gap in a guest calendar.

Canal berths bring their own question

Some of the moorings here are in the canal rather than open sea, and it is worth thinking about what that means on board.

The water that goes into the tank comes from the dock supply, not from where the yacht is floating, so the mooring itself is not the issue. What does matter is that canal berths tend to be long-stay, and long stays mean the system sits still.

The air side is affected more directly. A yacht moored in a sheltered, humid spot runs her air conditioning harder against damp air, and a fan coil working in humid conditions collects more on the coil and stays wetter for longer after it stops.

If the yacht smells musty within minutes of the air conditioning starting, that is the place to look first, not the water.

Timing

Easy access means the timing is yours

This is one of the few ports on the list where the date is usually driven by you rather than by the marina.

If the yacht is used for short trips through the year, an interval of a few months for sampling keeps the picture current without much cost.

If she is being prepared for a delivery or a season elsewhere, do the full list here, where there is space and time, rather than at the destination.

How a visit works

From the first call to the report

The sequence is the same whichever berth you are on in Fiumicino. What changes is the timing, and that is planned around the yacht rather than around us.

We look before we quote

A technician goes through the yacht with the crew: which outlets are used daily and which almost never, where the air handling units sit, what the crew has actually noticed.

The visit is planned around you

We fit the work into the window you have — between charters, during a yard period, or over a quiet weekend alongside.

We work alongside

No yard move and no lift. The heavy equipment stays on the quay; only hoses and a small dosing unit come aboard, on protected decks.

You get it in writing

Sampling points, what was done, and the laboratory report where water was analysed. That document is what closes the job.

A word from our CEO

A clean system is easy to prove when every step is written down. That is what we hand to the captain.

Our people

Our own technicians, certified processes

Every intervention is carried out by AirBio technicians employed and trained in house, never subcontracted. We work under certified management systems and close each job with a technical report the captain can file on board.

FAQ

Working in Fiumicino: frequently asked questions

Does a canal mooring affect the drinking water?

Not directly — the water comes from the dock supply. What affects it is how long the yacht sits without the system being used.

The cabins smell musty when the air conditioning starts. Where does that come from?

Almost always from the coil inside the unit, which stays damp after the compressor stops. Cleaning the filter does not reach it; the unit has to be opened.

How much notice do you need?

Usually a few days. Fiumicino is one of the easier ports to schedule because access is not the constraint.
