Yacht Sanitization in Trieste
The head of the Adriatic, with proper winters and long layups.
Trieste is the coldest port on this list, and that changes the picture. A winter here genuinely slows things down in a water system — but it brings its own risk when the yacht wakes up.
A cold layup is safer, until the first warm fill
The danger in a northern layup is not the winter. It is the week the heating goes back on.
Through the cold months a system left full sits at a temperature where growth is slow. Nothing much happens, which is why a yacht here can go a long time without anyone thinking about it.
Then the calorifier is switched on and the whole network moves into the range where bacteria multiply quickly — with whatever has been quietly accumulating on the pipe walls all winter still in place. That first warm week is when a dormant problem becomes an active one.
The answer is simple: treat and sample at the recommissioning, not at the layup. The result you want in the file is the one that describes the system as it goes back into use.

Everything we can treat while you are in Trieste
The same six jobs make up almost every visit. On most yachts more than one of them is needed at the same time, which is why we survey first and then plan them into a single stop.

Plan the work around the recommissioning
The rhythm here is long winter, short season. That makes the spring restart the single most important date.
Book the treatment and the sampling into the recommissioning week, before the first guests and with time for the laboratory result to come back.
If the yacht is drained for the winter, the first fill is still the moment: a dry system is cleaner, not sterile.
From the first call to the report
The sequence is the same whichever berth you are on in Trieste. What changes is the timing, and that is planned around the yacht rather than around us.
We look before we quote
A technician goes through the yacht with the crew: which outlets are used daily and which almost never, where the air handling units sit, what the crew has actually noticed.
The visit is planned around you
We fit the work into the window you have — between charters, during a yard period, or over a quiet weekend alongside.
We work alongside
No yard move and no lift. The heavy equipment stays on the quay; only hoses and a small dosing unit come aboard, on protected decks.
You get it in writing
Sampling points, what was done, and the laboratory report where water was analysed. That document is what closes the job.

A clean system is easy to prove when every step is written down. That is what we hand to the captain.

Our own technicians, certified processes
Every intervention is carried out by AirBio technicians employed and trained in house, never subcontracted. We work under certified management systems and close each job with a technical report the captain can file on board.

Working in Trieste: frequently asked questions
If the winter is cold, do we still need this?
Yes, but the timing changes. The cold slows growth while it lasts; the risk arrives when the system warms up again, which is why the work belongs at the recommissioning.
We drain down every winter. Is that enough?
It helps a great deal, and it is better than leaving the system full. It does not sterilise the pipework, so the first fill is still worth treating and sampling.
How far in advance should we book the spring visit?
As soon as the relaunch date is known. Everyone in the northern Adriatic recommissions in the same few weeks.
Wintering in Trieste?
Tell us the yacht, whether the system is drained and when she recommissions. A technician calls you back within 24 hours.
Tell us about the yacht
Yacht length, marina, systems and what you have noticed on board. A technician reads the message and calls you back to plan the survey.
