Genoa is where the Ligurian coast concentrates: marina berths in the old harbour, repair quays, and yachts passing through between France and Tuscany. We travel here on request, and the visit is usually planned around whatever else the yacht is in for.
Two very different kinds of stop
A yacht in Genoa is either passing through for a few days or in for weeks of work. What is worth doing depends entirely on which.
On a short stop the sensible jobs are the ones that finish in a day and do not need the interior opened: treating the fresh water system, taking samples, degreasing the galley extraction. All of it happens with the equipment on the quay.
On a long stop the air side comes into play. Fan coils behind cabin joinery and duct runs above the headlining are only really reachable when the panels are already off, and a yard period is the one time that is true.
Genoa also sees a lot of yachts arriving after a long passage with the water system sitting untouched for weeks. That is the classic case for a sample before anything else.

Spring and autumn are the busy windows
Genoa fills up either side of the season, which means booking a visit here needs a little more notice than further down the coast.
If the yacht is heading west into France for the summer, the water system and the air side are better done before she leaves, while the yard is still to hand.
If she is coming back in autumn for winter work, the first thing to book is the sampling: it decides whether the winter list includes a water treatment or not.

How much notice do you need for Genoa?
Usually a few days. Either side of the season it is worth asking earlier, because the whole coast is busy at the same time.
Can you work in the old harbour berths?
Yes. The constraint there is quay space for the units rather than anything technical, and we check that during the survey.
She has just come in off a long passage. What is worth doing first?
Sample the water before treating anything. After weeks with the system half used, the result tells you whether a flush is enough or whether the network needs treating properly.
